When someone brings in a high level marketing hire, the chances are they are looking for someone who knows marketing because they DONT. A certain amount of it comes from having the confidence to say "here's how things are and here's how they could be better" in your own voice and bring your own ideas and strategies to the table. If you've been a first time VP of Marketing and are reading this post, I'd love to get your thoughts in the comments on what makes a great 30-60-90 day plan and some things you've done in the past before.ġ. Get the book "Next CMO" by Peter Mahoney - some really good templates and frameworks in there for strategy and planning. Listen to episodes 76 (Kyle Lacy on his first 90 days as a new CMO) and 82 (Jon Miller on What a Great CMO Does) of the Exit Five podcast.ģ. CMO Scorecard - Google "Tim Kopp CMO Scorecard" this is a document I reference often and share with many first time marketing leaders.Ģ. Here are some resources you can lean on right now:ġ. What needs fixing? What do you need to learn? What goals should you have? You've got this. Evaluate the company and what they need with marketing now and build YOUR 30-60-90 day plan. This is your first crack at making marketing yours, so build your plan. You clearly have experience in marketing if a company is willing to hire you as VP of Marketing right? You're not an intern anymore. Instead, I would you push you to develop you own plan and ignore you imposter syndrome. Is this a brand new company? A company in need of a change? Is there a team? How is their current marketing? See just with those questions alone there is SO much nuance. While I can understand why you'd ask for a 30-60-90 day plan there is never going to be a template for this because it's really so dependent on the company and stage.
